  1. Tell us a little bit about yourself. Your background, education etc. ??

I was born in Chile and have lived in Australia for 22 years. I started writing very early on. I was constantly representing my school in literary competions, etc. I studied drama but I moved to Australia before finishing the degree. I had two amazing children and for years I fully dedicated to being a mum although I never stopped writing, mainly poetry. Then my life’s circumstances drastically changed and a writing opportunity appeared to save my life, exactly when I needed it. It has being a beautiful journey since then. I studied Justice, Public Policy resolution, humanitarian response to conflict as I have a passion for contributing to women’s empowerment and children’s safety.

  1. At what point did you decided to become an author ?

I cant say it was a decision, per sei. Writing has been the medium that allows me to connect with a world from which I sometimes feel quite disconnected. It allows me to let my soul flow free in a safe and non judgemental way. Writing is solitary and solitude permits freedom. What I have decided, though, is to continue writing, no matter what.

  1. How would you describe ” Kaleidoscope: My life’s multiple reflections” to someone who has not read yet your this book ?
Like a rollercoaster of emotions that draws you in to ride it. It tells the story of Lucia, a beautiful woman who has suffered extensive trauma and lives, like me in real life, with Dissociative Identity Disorder. It shows you how a woman can fullfill every space in her own life and the strenght we possess to get up after being thrown around by people or circumstances. It has a big erotic component too; that speaks from a woman’s sexual empowerment place.
  2. When and where do you write ?

Everywhere! Luckily, I can do it anywhere as I require very little. Even the bathroom is a good place to create. I suffer insomnia so I usually write at night. I am awake when most people sleep. My sleeping pattern is varied and this escapes my control. I see evrything from a multi angular perspective and this is rather interesting as it gives me opportunities to work with one thing in an array of ways. I like writing around people, like in cafes and places like that but most of my work is created in my bedroom. That sounds a bit funny, doesn’t it?

  1. What motivates you to do your best work as a author / writer ?
Connecting with others. I write about those things that we usually prefer to ignore, due to their painful nature but I want to give a voice to the people who cannot speak up about it. I want to raise those subjects so we, as a society, learn how to address them appropriately. When someone tells me my work has helped them that is a huge push to keep doing it and also the fact that it is through writing that I have come to know me better and deeper and to let go of those things that hurt as well as to take comfort to others who need it too.
  2. What’s your advice to an aspiring novelist / author?

Do it! Too often I hear people saying the would like to tell their stories or have an idea but don’t know how to write. Theres no one else in this world with the same way to understand, process and appreciate things as yours. This gives you a unique language that in return will be heard by others that have similarities with your stories. Let fear go and write.

  1. Are you an author that interacts a great deal with your readers?
Absolutely! I aim to go beyond the written page, to provoke social movements that work towards a fairer world. I always learn from people; we are all unique worlds with so much to offer and I am deeply grateful to be read, heard and given the chance to know everyone behind the cover of my work.
  2. How can people find your book online and get updates about it ?
Kaleidoscope: my life’s multiple reflections is available globally through Amazon and Inspiring Publishers. For Caleidoscopio, the Spanish version, there is a list of stores in marceladelsol.net
  3. What can we expect from Marcela del Sol in the future?

I am currently working on a beautiful book on the power of women to raise after anything. It is a multidisciplinary project that fills me with gratitude and strength. Keep tuned because it will be sooner rather than later.
