LOOKING INTO THE LENS OF WORLD RENOWNED PHOTOGRAPHER KAYEE

When I first started looking at Kayee’s photographic portfolio, I thought to myself that this young artist from Hong Kong is a melancholy person. Her subjects seemed thoughtful and introspective and rather aloof. Many artists unconsciously add their own feelings to their art pieces and one can possibly read the artist through their work. Of course, that’s not always true, it is only a rumor, probably started by an artist to hide his or her true feelings even more deeply than they were already.

On the other hand, the pensive photographs were only a portion of her fabulous and prolific body of work. She has so many categories in her very sizable portfolio that you can go from thoughtful to melancholy and from playfulness to landscapes. You can also glide through her exquisite black and whites right into the lush, fully saturated blues and reds of Asian traditional folk wear, worn by a smiling elderly person happy to be photographed by a real artist.

Kayee was born in China and raised in Hong Kong. She considers herself a visual person and as far back as she can remember, she was always interested in movies and looking at beautiful images. When Kayee’s grandfather gave her his old Canon view finder camera she played with it like it was a toy. She took a lot of pictures with it and loved to watch the magic of film development and then turning those negatives into pictures. The magic stayed with her because she attended filmmaking courses at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts for three years and then She had changed her major from filmmaking to photography and moved to Los Angeles to enroll in the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena to study photography.

She loves photography and when you see her art, you know that she loves people and different cultures. She finds photography much easier and just as creative as filmmaking and she can do it alone without a large crew to carry the movie camera, lights and tripod around. The nice thing about being a photographer is that she can meet people and travel the world and she is always welcomed. Kayee portfolio, which you can see at: http://www.kiukayee.com/ has a section called Journey and another called LA to Berlin. The photos in Journey were shot in Asia and the others are in Los Angeles and Berlin. A lot of smiles in those pictures. The people in the pictures are smiling at a very happy and artistic young woman who is pointing her camera at them.
