2020 Honeymoon Destinations

Choosing where to go on your honeymoon can take as long as planning the wedding.  With more and more couples choosing to shake off the more cliched destinations in favor of something off the beaten track, the world is opening up to couples who are looking for something a bit more personal.

Of course there are numerous operators who will plan out every little detail to ensure you have the romantic break of a lifetime, but here are some examples of destinations that look set to gain popularity among honeymooners in the year ahead.

Antarctica

This may not be the first place to pop into your head when you think of a unique luxury holidays, but it certainly has its appeal.  Luxury cruises whisk passengers off to admire the staggering scenery in one of the most severe and brutal environments on the planet.  This really is a once in a lifetime experience where you can experience black sand beaches peppered with penguins, whales, seals, polar bears, and birds who all inhabit this stark landscape.

Namibia, Africa

For adventurous couples, Namibia has a lot to offer with 300 days of sunshine a year, a rich expanse of desert and some unmissable wildlife. One of the least densely populated spots on the planet, Namibia offers travelers small, remote and environmentally sensitive lodges from where couples can enjoy spectacular landscapes as well as big five safaris limitless horizons and ancient culture.  It is worth considering a visit to the remote Skeleton Coast National Park which is littered with mysterious shipwrecks and home to desert elephants.

Madagascar

Madagascar has masses to offer couples looking to combine quiet romance with sightseeing and adventure. The weather can be perfect for making trips to the white sandy beaches and pristine azure seas simply sublime. There is also Ranomafana National Park, home to no less than eleven species of Lama and a rich biodiversity of birds and animal species who reside in its thick forest. Couples can also wonder at the magnificence of the baobab trees and other worldly scenery found here.

Colombia

Colombia may not have listed as a popular honeymoon destination previously, but tourism here has risen by 300 per cent in the past 12 years due to the abundance of choice the country has to offer. Bright yellow villas and cathedrals with balconies of bougainvillea line cobbled streets in the Caribbean-side town of Cartagena. This is also the perfect destination for foodie couples as contemporary restaurants have opened to satisfy the demands of a contemporary crowd.

Cambodia

Previously the destination of the gap year kid, Cambodia is increasingly becoming popular for honeymooning couples. This is because Cambodia represents the perfect blend of culture and history with beaches and romance in an unspoilt setting bursting with authentic charm. Pristine white beaches meet crystal clear sea where beautiful uninhabited islands offer the perfect place to relax in the warm sunshine.  Also, worth a visit is Angkor, a spectacular collection of centuries-old temples spread over roughly 250 square miles.
