The Work of Writer Shunsuke Funakoshi
Without words, people cannot exist in this world. Shunsuke Funakoshi is a fortunate person because he writes screenplays and creates worlds that come alive on the screen. He manipulates words, giving them life. Many people use words for advancement and pleasure, yet Shunsuke uses his to bring unique perspectives to his audience.
His feature screenplay, Money Man, won best feature screenplay at LA Live Film Festival in 2018. This accolade places Shunsuke in the same category as several other successful filmmakers in Hollywood. Writing a sci-fi story is a challenge because it requires a balance between fresh, outside-the-box concepts and timeless, relatable ideas to evoke emotion.
Shunsuke’s work has been acknowledged since 2014 when he wrote his first short screenplay. Three of his short screenplays have been nominated in various film festivals across the United States and now his feature film brings him fresh recognition.
Shunsuke did not explore storytelling in his home country of Japan. Instead, he began his writing career while studying at Santa Monica College in Los Angeles. After taking several film classes, he managed to produce his ideas and showcase them at festivals across the United States. He completed his education in New York where he wrote his first feature film screenplay.
Shunsuke has written five short films and three feature films, most of which were completed while he was in school. He continues to break his language barrier by writing in a language that is foreign to him. And now, he has multiple feature film screenplays under development at production companies in Los Angeles and New York.
