The “King Pong” of 1996
As the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo now just 60 days away, Team USA (men’s singles) Assistant Table Tennis Coach, Marques L. Morrison (41) has bittersweet memories of the summer of ’96. At just 17 years old, The N.J. native made a memorable run for Princeton’s Nassau Club. Morrison was the first from the club to rank in the U.S.T.T.A. U-21 Top-50 and play for the U.S. National Team.
During the ’95-’96 season; Morrison made it all the way to the Olympic qualification stage, narrowly missing his dream of representing Team USA in the ’96 Summer Games. As a consolation prize, Morrison was eventually selected as the #2 alternate for Team USA in the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta.
