A Quick Conversation With Ser Franklin

Born in Brazil in 1983, Ser Franklin was adopted by an italian family at the age of 10 months. He grew up in a small country named Baragiano, up until the unitiming death of both of his adoptive parents. At 19 years old, Ser Franklin decided to leave the town he grew up in to go studing in Bologna, at the University of Languages and Literatures, where thanks to a scholarship, he had the chance to go abroad for a year and a half, in Denver, United States.

Ser Franklin was always obsessed with music and singing ever since he was a child, and in Denver he was introduced to jazz and soul music, falling in love with the likes of Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Donny Hathaway and many others. After a year and a half, before he went back to Italy, where he lived between Naples and Rome, Ser Franklin had already developed a passion for writing songs as well, songs that little by little bacame his first studio album, “Lonely soul”. He currently lives in London.

Q: How easily do songs tend to come to you?

Ans : not too easily, usually during night time, and some alcohol does help speed up the process haha.

Q: What is you favorite song to belt out at the bar/in the car?

Ans: “Rolling in the deep” by Adele

Q: For our readers who have never heard your music, explain your sound in 5 words?

Ans: personal, sincere, vulnerable, soulful, intimate

Q: You write all of your own music; where do you draw inspiration from when you write songs and what’s your favorite part about the proccess?

ANS: a lot of inspiration comes from visual clues, paintings inspire me a lot

Q: At what age did you start singing?

ANS: as far back as i can remember, i was really young

Q:Who are your inspirations?

Ans: it started when i discovered jazz, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, then i discovered soul, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder….the great artists and vocalists from the past and from today inspire me a lot

Q: If you could perform with anyone, in the future, who would it have to be?

Ans: i would love to sing with Annie Lennox, Seal andSting

Q:What is your favorite song to sing live?

probably “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder, you can really let loose vocally on that one

Q:Do you have any advice for anyone wanting to sing as a career or just advice about careers in general?

the digital era we live in now gives you a lot of tools to succeed, so make the best music you possibly can,
