Talking Fashion with Actor Donald Paul
Hollywood actor Donald Paul has seen his star rise over the past couple years. With appearances on hit shows such as Raising Dion, Power, Grown, Quantico, and Love Is__, Donald has taken over our screens!
Beyond the screen though, Donald is known for his superb fashion taste and always catching the attention of cameras while walking the red carpet at events in both New York and Hollywood.
We caught up with Donald to dive deeper into his style and what other projects he has coming up in the near future.
- To start off, how would you describe your own personal style?
Jean jackets, beanie hats, chore coats, leather jackets, baseball caps, skinny jeans, and wool topcoats. I like to consider shirts with bold colors and patterns, shirts with two chest pockets, and with a looser fit on me. Shirts with strips and/or dots are finding their way in my closet often these days.
- How do you decide what to wear on a red carpet?
It definitely depends on the event, weather, location, and my mood. I try not to be predictable but if I have to I’ll embrace the black tux because it’s of course a classic look I can’t lose in. Also the grey suit is a classic look as well that can be dressed up in a number of ways and has been my go to in the past.
- How important is “Fashion” while on-screen and helping to tell the story of your characters you play?
Very. Style and/or what a character wears can set the tone and mood of the film. I was lucky enough to work in a show called “Underground” on WGN which was the story about slaves and took place in the 1850s in Georgia.
- What brands do you usually like to wear day-to-day?
I’m the type that likes to be comfortable at all times. Since I like to run, Adidas is a brand you can find me in heavily. In the grocery store or around the neighborhood you’ll most likely catch me in H&M, Urban Outfitter, or American Eagle.
- What role so far has been your favorite due to the fact of the awesome fashion that character got to wear?
I’m in love with the style and fashion of the years before my time. Every time I get the opportunity to play a character from the 70’s, 60’s, 50’s, or even 40’s it adds a different level of excitement to me.
- What is your advice to others who are wanting to pursue acting and entertainment as a career?
It’s just like any other career. There will be ups and down throughout the journey. You have to give 100 percent on a daily basis this career is much more than a 9 to 5. Just like most careers I think your chances are greater the more you study and keep an extremely high level of focus.
- What upcoming projects are you currently working on and/or are releasing soon?
I play Morris Kalu in the upcoming Dick Wolf created TV show “FBI” on CBS airing later this month (April 9th). Other projects include Cedric in “Queen of the South” on the USA Network and Anthony Fry in the new upcoming Netflix series “Raising Dion.” Both shows set to air sometime this summer.
- In your opinion, who is the best dressed actor of all-time?
That’s a tough one. I have a couple in mind. Paul Newman, Donald Glover, and Andre 3000 would be my top picks for sure!
